Macon Traditional Undergraduate Students
The Academic Resource Center (ARC) provides several different services designed specifically for Mercer's Macon traditional undergraduate students. We offer peer tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, college study skills courses (LSK 185/186), individual counseling, and workshops. Each of the services is designed to help Macon undergraduate students improve performance and accomplish their academic goals.
Macon Campus Traditional Undergraduate
- Multi-discipline peer tutoring
- Supplemental Instruction (SI), an intensive group study program led by highly-qualified student SI leaders, for biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, accounting, and economics courses
- College Study Skills (LSK 185/186) courses for freshmen and students who are struggling academically
- Individual study skills counseling to help students develop academic success plans
- Textbook library that provides a variety of course textbooks for student use
- In-person study skills workshops that cover various topics like avoiding plagiarism and time management
- Online videos posted on our website (Note Taking, Avoiding Plagiarism, The Secret to Making All A's, and more!)
- Student-athlete support (coordinated with Mercer’s Athletic Department and on-site student-athlete advisors) and student-athlete study hall
- Direct access to math and statistics professors through Math Tuesdays (9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.), during which CLAS math and statistics professors hold their office hours in the ARC math lab (Ryals 101)
- Quiet study spaces, including two private study rooms
- Computer lab (Ryals 103) with nine desktop computers
- A duplexing, color printer with copying and scanning capabilities (linked to Mercer’s Bear Card pay-for-print system) is available in the ARC lobby
- Extended hours (open 24 hours a day) during finals week
- Leadership opportunities for sophomore, junior, and senior students through the peer tutoring and SI leader positions
- Online resources for students who wish to assess and/or improve their study skills through our College Study Skills website
- Peer tutor certification through our tutor training program that has been certified by the College Reading and Learning Association
- Writing tutoring feedback to professors through our writing handbook-specific Tutor Review forms
- Writing workshops for students seeking assistance with the writing process, formatting, or common writing mistakes
